Mott MacDonald and Roughan & O’Donovan win €600M Irish Rail contract

Mott MacDonald and Roughan & O’Donovan have been appointed to a multidisciplinary consultancy framework for Iarnród Éireann (Irish Rail). The agreement is valued at approximately €600 million (£515 million) and has an initial term of five years, with an option to extend for an additional three years.

The partnership will provide design and technical assistance across stages 1 through 5 of the project management process. This includes defining project objectives and scope, feasibility studies, preliminary and detailed design, support for planning and authorization, and the preparation of tender documentation.

This consultancy framework supports Ireland’s broader rail infrastructure investment programme, which follows a Cabinet-approved investment of over €10 billion. The programme aims to modernize the rail network, improve capacity and efficiency, and advance electrification and signaling upgrades across the country.
