Mount Ararat expedition: Venezuelan climbers attempt first ascent

Venezuelan mountaineers Franz Sunyovszky and Jorge Abello are preparing for the ‘Expedición José Gregorio Hernández’ to attempt the first Venezuelan ascent of Mount Ararat in Turkey. The peak stands at an altitude of 5,137 meters.

Part of the Misión APO project, the expedition aims to use high-altitude climbing as a platform to promote messages of resilience, discipline, and overcoming adversity. The name ‘Apö’ is derived from the Pemón language, signifying resilience. This mission serves as a preparatory step in a broader climbing route that includes an expedition to Chimborazo in Ecuador, with the ultimate goal of reaching Mount Everest.
