Mount Beerwah rescue operation underway for stranded hiker

A rescue operation is underway to retrieve a hiker in his 20s who fell on Mount Beerwah in the Glass House Mountains National Park on Saturday afternoon. The man sustained ankle injuries and was unable to descend the peak, which is the highest in the Glass House Mountains at 565 metres.

Due to the challenging terrain and time of day, emergency services were unable to complete the rescue on Saturday. Members of the Queensland Fire Department hiked to the man to spend the night with him. He is reported to be in stable condition, and crews are expected to bring him down the mountain on Sunday.

This incident follows several recent fatalities in the area, including the deaths of two 18-year-olds earlier this year and an interstate tourist on nearby Mount Tibrogargan.
