Mount Cotton developer seeks state approval for major mixed-use project
A developer is seeking state approval to transform rural land in Mount Cotton, southeast of Brisbane, into a major mixed-use precinct. Stephen Williams, representing local landholders including the owners of Sirromet Winery and several chicken farms, aims to have the area designated as a priority development area (PDA).
The proposed project includes a five-star hotel, an industrial park, and residential housing. By securing a PDA status, the development could bypass local council control, allowing the state to determine land use. The landholders, including Darwalla and Golden Cockerel, are reportedly looking for new uses for their properties due to avian flu risks associated with maintaining poultry operations near expanding residential populations.
Redland City Council has previously voted to support an investigation into including the area in the urban footprint. A draft plan for the entire south-east Queensland urban footprint is expected by the end of the year.
