Mount Etna shows increased volcanic tremor and degassing
Mount Etna is experiencing increased volcanic activity, characterized by rising volcanic tremor and intense degassing from the North-East crater. According to the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) and the Etna Observatory, the increase in tremor began in the early hours of October 12. Tremor sources have been localized just east of the Voragine crater at an altitude of approximately 2,800 meters.
Monitoring instruments have also detected modest high-frequency ground oscillations in the northeastern sector of the volcano. While the GNSS network shows no significant changes, clinometric stations have recorded these slight variations.
A yellow aviation color code (Volcano Observatory Notice for Aviation) remains in effect. Currently, there are no reported disruptions to operations at Catania's Vincenzo Bellini International Airport.
