Mount Fuji cleanup project recovers over 5 tons of waste

In a special broadcast of the variety program ‘Aiba Hiromi no Okomari desu ka?’, entertainers Masaki Aiba and Hiromi participated in a large-scale cleanup project at Mount Fuji, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The initiative was launched to address a shortage of manpower for waste collection amid increasing tourism.

The cleanup teams encountered various types of litter across multiple climbing routes, including cigarette butts, food waste, and vintage beer cans. Beyond standard litter, the participants discovered significant illegal dumping at the base of the mountain, including household appliances such as air conditioners, microwaves, and televisions, as well as car tires, kitchen sinks, and bathtubs.

Supported by guests including the comedy duo U-ji Koji and Hiroya Yamazaki, the group successfully collected and struggled with over 5 tons of waste in total.
