Mount Fuji Subashiri Trail concludes climbing season

The climbing season for the Mount Fuji Subashiri Trail concluded on September 10, marked by a closing ceremony held at the Higashiguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine. Approximately 50 officials attended the event.

The season was extended this year, beginning on July 1 instead of the traditional July 10, resulting in a nine-day longer climbing period. Due to this extension, the information center at the Subashiri Trail 5th Station saw over 10,000 visitors, a 127% increase compared to the previous year.

Authorities have issued warnings that climbing is prohibited on the trails following the closure due to road laws. Mountain huts and public toilets from the 6th station and above are closed for the winter, and there is no rescue system available. Climbers are advised against attempting to hike during the off-season due to severe weather conditions and risks of rockfalls and avalanches.
