Mount Jack wildfire near Sooke classified as being held

The Mount Jack wildfire near Sooke has been classified as “being held” by the BC Wildfire Service following recent rainfall. The fire, which covers 276.19 hectares, is located approximately four kilometres west of the Sooke River and south of Mount Jack.

Rainfall on Friday evening reduced fire behaviour to Rank 1, described as a smoldering ground fire with no open flames. No significant growth was reported overnight. Approximately 65 firefighters and support personnel, including crews from the Capital Regional District, are currently assigned to the incident. Ground crews are working to expand containment along the south and west flanks.

The fire, which was discovered on September 20 and is suspected to be human-caused, is not currently considered a threat to public safety, critical infrastructure, or structures. While drier conditions are expected over the weekend, cooler temperatures and more rain are forecast for early next week.
