Mount Jack wildfire near Sooke listed as under control

The Mount Jack wildfire near Sooke, British Columbia, is now under control after burning for over a week. The BC Wildfire Service reported on Tuesday, September 29, that the fire, covering 337.23 hectares, is not expected to spread beyond its current perimeter.

Recent rainfall has reduced the wildfire to a smouldering ground fire with no open flames. Approximately 60 firefighters and support personnel, including heavy equipment operators and aviation resources, are working to expand containment and cool heat areas inward from the perimeter. The fire, which was first discovered on September 20, is suspected to be human-caused.

As a precaution, the Capital Regional District has maintained closures for Kapoor Regional Park and the Galloping Goose Regional Trail northbound at the Spring Salmon Place Campground.
