Mount Korab: Double-headed eagle reinstalled as Macedonian flag removed
The metal double-headed eagle symbol has been reinstalled on the highest peak of Mount Korab, a mountain spanning the border between North Macedonia and Albania. This follows the recent removal of the symbol and the subsequent placement of a Macedonian flag by a group of Macedonian hikers.
According to reports from the portal Koha, the Macedonian flag has now been removed from the site. The incident has drawn reactions from both nations. The Macedonian Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that the symbol was placed on the side of the summit located outside of Macedonian territory and is currently coordinating with mountaineering clubs and relevant institutions to investigate the circumstances.
The Albanian Mountaineering and Mountain Tourism Federation claimed the symbol was installed by a team of Albanian mountaineers. The Federation has called on Albanian authorities to investigate who removed the symbol and to take steps to ensure its return, while emphasizing that individual actions should not damage the cooperation between the mountaineering communities of the two countries.
