Mount Olympus: Body of missing Israeli hiker found
The body of 46-year-old Israeli hiker Ami Yogev has been found on Mount Olympus, Greece, ending a search that lasted approximately three weeks. Yogev, a resident of Modiin, went missing after losing contact with his family on September 20 while ascending the mountain.
His remains were discovered in the Mavrolakkos area at an altitude of approximately 1,800 meters by a private group of Israeli volunteers who had joined the search efforts. Following the discovery, specialized Greek disaster response units (EMAK) and the Litochoro Fire Service launched an operation to recover the body from the rugged and difficult terrain.
The search involved extensive efforts by Greek authorities, the local mountaineering community, and the use of drones. The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been monitoring the case, which was initially reported to the Israeli Embassy in Athens after Yogev's family could no longer reach him. While the exact circumstances of his death have not yet been officially confirmed, investigators are looking into whether the death was caused by a fall from a significant height.
