Mount Olympus climber dies after falling into steep ravine
A 40-year-old Greek climber has died following a fall into a steep ravine on Mount Olympus. The incident occurred on Saturday, August 22, 2026, in a difficult-to-access area between the Luki Mytikas and Kakoskala locations.
Authorities were alerted to the emergency at approximately 13:20. A large-scale rescue operation was launched involving the 2nd and 8th EMAC (Mountain Rescue) units, the Hellenic Rescue Team, and the Fire Service. Despite the efforts of rescuers and the use of a rescue helicopter, the climber was found unconscious and later pronounced dead.
