Mount Olympus search underway for missing Israeli hiker
Authorities in Greece are conducting search and rescue operations for Ami Jogev, a 46-year-old Israeli national who went missing while hiking on Mount Olympus. Jogev was last in contact with his family on Sunday, September 20, stating he had begun his ascent.
According to the owner of the ‘Spileo Agapitos’ mountain refuge, Jogev stayed there on September 19. He was last seen passing through the Kakalos plateau. Video footage suggests he attempted to reach the summit but found the route via Luki too difficult and turned back, later expressing intent to hike toward Skoleio, the mountain's second-highest peak.
The Israeli Embassy in Athens alerted the Greek police after family members reported they could not reach him. While his rental car was located in Litochoro, his whereabouts remain unknown. Search efforts involve firefighters and the use of drones to scan difficult terrain, subject to weather conditions.
