Mount Ridley Mines reports record scandium and rare earth recoveries
Mount Ridley Mines has reported its highest scandium and rare earth element (REE) recoveries to date using its proprietary, patent-pending Selectro leaching process. During the third leach test conducted at the Grass Patch project in Western Australia, the company achieved a scandium recovery of 91.8%, an increase from the 80% recorded in the previous test.
Notably, these improved results were achieved while using only half the reagent dose required in earlier tests. Heavy rare earth (HREE) recoveries averaged approximately 84%, while light rare earth (LREE) recoveries averaged 77%. The testing was performed on unbeneficiated material at low temperature and atmospheric pressure, with maximum recoveries reached in under four hours.
While most recoveries improved, gallium recovery saw a decrease, falling to approximately 41.5% from 55.8% in the second test. The company indicated that reagent tuning and future beneficiation processes are expected to improve these results. The Grass Patch project is noted for holding 47,357 tonnes of contained scandium, which is among the largest reported under the JORC Code. The company plans to advance the Selectro process into flotation concentrate and bulk sample testing.
