Mount Sinai researchers identify new targets for high-grade glioma

Researchers at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and various collaborators have identified potential treatment targets and prognostic markers for high-grade glioma (HGG), an aggressive form of brain cancer. The study, published in Cell Reports Medicine, focused on children, adolescents, and young adults (AYA) aged 0 to 40 years.

Through proteogenomic and multiomics analyses of tumors from over 100 patients, the team discovered that HGG biology varies significantly based on sex and developmental stage. The research identified two distinct AYA age groups with unique molecular profiles and survival outcomes. By distinguishing cancer-related molecular features from those tied to normal brain development, the researchers aim to provide a foundation for more precise clinical trial designs and targeted therapies.

The study was conducted in collaboration with the Clinical Proteomic Tumor Analysis Consortium (CPTAC) of the National Cancer Institute, the Children’s Brain Tumor Network, and the Philadelphia Coalition for a Cure.
