Mountain bike market sees rise in 32-inch wheels and high-spec carbon models

The mountain bike industry is experiencing significant technical shifts, notably with the commercial availability of 32-inch wheel configurations. Previously limited to experimental prototypes and R&D projects, several models are now available for consumers. This transition follows competitive demonstrations, such as Felix Stehli using a 32-inch Stoll bike during the Cape Epic 2026.

Various manufacturers are exploring this new format through different approaches, including the Alutech E-Enduro 32”, which utilizes a mullet setup with a 32-inch front wheel and a 29-inch rear wheel. Other notable developments include the Bike Ahead Composites 32”, the BMC Fahrenheit project, the Dead Rabbit XCO 32”, and the KTM Sixty-Four.

Simultaneously, there is a continued focus on high-performance cross-country (XC) hardtail bikes. The Cube Reaction C:68X SLX represents a trend toward offering premium components at competitive prices, featuring a lightweight carbon frame, carbon wheels, and SRAM GX Eagle AXS wireless electronic shifting, weighing approximately 9.9 kg.
