Mountain gorilla trekking in Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park
In Rwanda, travelers can participate in nature tourism by tracking mountain gorillas within the Volcanoes National Park. Located in a region of tropical forests and mountains at altitudes exceeding 2,500 meters, the trek requires navigating thick vegetation, muddy trails, and bamboo forests.
The experience involves varying levels of physical exertion, with treks lasting anywhere from one hour to seven hours depending on animal location and terrain. Visitors have the opportunity to observe primates, including adult silverback males that can weigh over 180 kilograms, in their natural habitat.
To protect the animals, strict regulations are in place, including a one-hour limit on observation time and the mandatory use of masks to prevent the transmission of human diseases. The permit for gorilla tracking costs $1,500 per person.
