Mountain rescue operations in Slovakia result in two fatalities
Two separate mountain rescue incidents in Slovakia have resulted in fatalities involving tourists.
In the Malá Fatra mountains, a group of seven Slovak tourists became disoriented between the Hromový and Chleb peaks due to heavy snow, fog, and strong winds. During the incident, a 34-year-old man from Bratislava slipped and fell approximately 100 meters down a ravine. Despite rescue efforts involving fifteen personnel and the use of a cable car to expedite transport, the man died from head injuries.
In a separate case, mountain rescuers located the body of a 73-year-old Czech man in the Low Tatras. The individual had been missing since October 13. His body was discovered in the cliffs below Poľana peak, located on the main ridge of the Low Tatras. The Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that while Slovak authorities confirmed the discovery, formal identification was still pending at the time of the report.
