Mountain rescue operations successful in Argentina and Peru
Two separate mountain rescue operations were successfully completed in Argentina and Peru involving individuals lost in difficult terrain.
In Ambato, Argentina, 54-year-old Ángel Ramón Saavedra was rescued from the Pirco Tapado hill in the Las Piedras Blancas area. Saavedra had gone missing while searching for livestock. After a search involving police, mounted police, and the Special Rescue Group (GER), rescuers established contact with him near the La Hoyada river. Due to injuries and difficult terrain characterized by landslides and thick vegetation, he was transported via a rigid board and subsequently transferred to a private clinic for medical attention.
In Cusco, Peru, a 22-year-old Ukrainian tourist, identified as V. Foroshcha, was rescued from Mount Putucusi near Machu Picchu. The individual went missing during a trek on the mountain, which overlooks the Inca citadel. Following an alert from the Ministry of Culture, National Police agents conducted a search and located the tourist in a hard-to-reach area. He was stabilized and transported to a local health center for medical evaluation.
