Troglav mountain rescue triggered by false injury report
The Mountain Rescue Service (GSS) of Hercegbosanska Županija reported an incident on Troglav mountain involving a false emergency report. On August 15, rescuers received a call from the parents of a young man claiming he had injured his leg while hiking and could not descend the mountain alone.
Six rescuers were dispatched to the Runolista kuća bivouac. Upon arrival, they found two young men in an unusually good mood. The rescuers noted that the individuals appeared disappointed when they realized the team had arrived on foot rather than by helicopter, as they had apparently hoped for a free scenic flight.
During the descent, the reported leg injury appeared to have miraculously healed, as the young man was able to walk without any assistance or signs of pain. The GSS issued a warning that such irresponsible calls waste vital resources and personnel, potentially delaying responses to genuine emergencies. They emphasized that the GSS is not a taxi service and urged hikers to assess their abilities and conditions before heading into the mountains.
