Mountain View City Council Blocks ICE Detention Center Near Gilroy

The Mountain View City Council voted unanimously to support a legal brief requesting a court order to halt construction of a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility on unincorporated land near Gilroy. The council also passed a policy barring federal agents from using city-owned property for civil immigration enforcement, covering parks, parking lots, garages, vacant lots, open spaces and city buildings, while exempting criminal law enforcement.

The action follows lawsuits by Santa Clara County and the State of California against the federal government over the proposed ICE center.
