Mousetrap Netflix series explores identity theft and revenge
The South Korean mystery thriller series ‘Mousetrap’ has premiered on Netflix. Directed by Kim Hong-sun and written by Lee Jae-gon, the ten-episode series stars Ryu Jun-yeol and Sul Kyung-gu.
Adapted from the Kakao webtoon ‘FieldMouse’, the plot follows Je Moon-jae, a reclusive, bestselling novelist living in isolation following the traumatic death of his parents. His life is disrupted when a doppelganger, later revealed to be his former college acquaintance Seo Yu-min, steals his identity through plastic surgery and digital cloning.
The series concludes with a confrontation between Moon-jae and Yu-min. It is revealed that Moon-jae’s successful writing career was built on stolen work from Yu-min, a betrayal that drove Yu-min to seek revenge. Following a physical struggle on a ferry, Yu-min falls into the ocean and dies. Moon-jae returns to his life but is left haunted by the truth of his actions and a manuscript left by Yu-min that details Moon-jae’s crimes.
