Mousourie Theatre to host John Logan’s ‘Red’ starring George Kimoulis

Starting Wednesday, October 7, 2026, George Kimoulis and Dimitris Gotsopoulos will perform John Logan’s play ‘Red’ at the Mousourie Theatre. The production is directed by George Kimoulis and produced by Karolos Pavlakis.

The play is set in the studio of painter Mark Rothko during the late 1950s. It follows Rothko as he faces a significant dilemma: whether to accept a massive commission to create a series of large paintings for a luxury New York restaurant or to remain true to his principles. The narrative explores the tension between art as a space for contemplation and art as a commodity.

Central to the story is the conflict between two generations, depicted through the relationship between the established master and Ken, a young painter who admires Rothko but seeks to challenge his established norms and impose a new artistic direction.
