Moussa Sangare murder trial sentencing delayed to February 2026

The sentencing in the murder trial of 33-year-old Sharon Verzeni has been postponed to February 25, 2026. The Court of Assize of Bergamo granted the request following a plea from the new defense counsel for Moussa Sangare, the 31-year-old accused of the crime.

Sangare's new lawyer, Tiziana Bacicca, requested additional time to study the case files, arguing that the previous timeframe was insufficient to ensure a proper defense. The prosecutor, Emanuele Marchisio, did not oppose the delay. While the defense has claimed there are “points that do not add up,” the victim's family maintains Sangare's guilt.

Although Sangare initially confessed to the murder that occurred in Terno d'Isola between July 29 and 30, 2024, he has since retracted his statement in court, declaring his innocence. The victim's legal representative, Luigi Scudieri, stated that the postponement does not change the substance of the facts and reiterated the family's position that the killing was premeditated.
