Moussa Sangare retracts murder confession despite DNA evidence

Moussa Sangare, 31, has once again retracted his confession regarding the murder of Sharon Verzeni, which occurred in Terno d’Isola on July 30, 2024. During a court hearing in Bergamo, Sangare claimed he only confessed due to stress and a mistaken belief that it would lead to his release. He maintains that he was merely a witness who saw the victim arguing with another man and accelerated his bicycle to avoid danger.

However, investigators have presented evidence that contradicts his claims. Most notably, the DNA of Sharon Verzeni was detected on the bicycle Sangare was using on the night of the crime. Sangare stated, “This is the only thing I cannot explain.”

Further complications to his defense include testimonies from adolescents who claim they were threatened by the defendant, as well as his previous ability to provide specific details known only to the Carabinieri. While Sangare suggested that surveillance cameras might have captured him passing by, no footage shows him committing the act. The victim's father, Bruno Verzeni, has expressed profound regret over the defendant's apparent lack of remorse.
