Mouth ulcers affect 70% of adults, according to Normon report
A report by Normon titled ‘De lo que sabemos a lo que hacemos: así está la salud bucodental en España’ highlights the prevalence of mouth ulcers, also known as aphthae. The study indicates that 70% of adults have experienced these small, painful ulcers at some point in their lives, and 42% of adults have suffered from them within the last year.
Among the younger demographic aged 18 to 34, only 14% report never having experienced such a lesion. The data suggests a tendency toward passive management; 41% of adults and 63.8% of young adults prefer to wait for the ulcers to resolve naturally rather than seeking medical solutions.
Paula Barbero, a pharmacist and head of Scientific Training at Normon, emphasizes the need for better public understanding regarding the nature and evolution of these lesions to help individuals recognize when to seek relief or protection for the affected area.
