Movimiento Ciudadano criticizes mobility crisis on Mexico-Querétaro highway

Laura Ballesteros, the state coordinator for Movimiento Ciudadano, has criticized the federal and state governments for the deteriorating mobility and safety conditions on the Mexico-Querétaro highway. She described the current situation as a “disaster,” noting that travel times between municipalities in Querétaro can take up to two hours, while trips between Mexico City and the state can extend to between four and six hours due to construction, accidents, and road closures.

Ballesteros attributed these delays to a lack of coordination between federal and state authorities and questioned the management of ongoing highway works. She highlighted that frequent accidents involving cargo units are impacting economic activity, fuel consumption, and productivity. Additionally, she noted that road saturation has driven up demand for flights from Querétaro International Airport, with some ticket prices reaching 13,000 pesos. In response, Movimiento Ciudadano plans to engage with transport associations and logistics businesses to implement training and evaluation programs for heavy vehicle operators.
