Movimiento Ciudadano denies national alliance with PRI amid political friction

Political tensions have escalated between the PRI and Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) in Mexico. Tania Larios, the PRI coordinator in the Mexico City Congress, accused MC of prioritizing former PRI members over its own militants. Larios identified several figures within MC, including Jorge Álvarez Maynez and Ivonne Ortega, as former PRI members, labeling the party as “hypocrites” and “traitors” who work for the Morena party.

In response to criticisms regarding past administrations, MC legislator Juan Zavala defended the current political shift, stating that the previous PRI government was a “disaster” that allowed Morena to rise to power.

Separately, Omar Cervantes Rivera, a local legislator from Jalisco and national coordinator for MC local deputies, clarified that the party has no confirmed national alliance with the PRI or any other political party. Cervantes emphasized that MC’s primary alliance should be with citizens to avoid the traditional political agreements of the “old regime.” He noted that MC is experiencing significant national growth.
