Movimiento Ciudadano faces representation challenge ahead of 2027 elections
Mexico's Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) holds 73 seats in the 32 state legislatures, representing just 6.5% of all state deputies. Its presence is concentrated in Jalisco, Nuevo León and Campeche, while many states such as Baja California Sur, Coahuila, Nayarit, Sonora and Tlaxcala have no MC legislators at all. The party's deputies consist of 19 elected by relative majority and 54 via proportional lists.
In Veracruz, MC has only two proportional deputies but recently surged, winning 41 municipal councils and approaching 20% of the vote, becoming the state's second‑largest force. The party is undertaking an internal reorganization to expand its structure across the federative entities, aiming to maintain its 2025 gains and become a competitive contender for the 2027 state elections and the 2030 presidential race.
