Movimiento Ciudadano leader faces protest in Guanajuato

During a book presentation at the University of Guanajuato, Movimiento Ciudadano national coordinator Jorge Álvarez Máynez faced a protest from party member Brenda de la Mora. De la Mora displayed a sign accusing the party's Guanajuato leadership of practicing ‘old politics’ and sidelining long-term members in favor of established political profiles. Following the demonstration, she was escorted from the venue.

Álvarez Máynez responded to the incident by stating he is open to internal criticism but suggested that recent attacks against the party in Guanajuato stem from opposition nervousness regarding the defection of León Mayor Alejandra Gutiérrez Campos to Movimiento Ciudadano. He characterized these tensions as signs of the party’s expansion and accused state and municipal governments of attempting to undermine the organization.
