Movimiento Ciudadano leader recognizes electoral potential in Michoacán

Jorge Álvarez Máynez, national president of Movimiento Ciudadano (MC), has acknowledged the electoral potential of the Movimiento del Sombrero in Michoacán. This independent group is led by Uruapan Mayor Grecia Quiroz.

Despite recognizing the movement's legitimate social base, Máynez stated that no political or electoral agreements have been reached for the 2027 election cycle, as Quiroz has not yet decided on her participation. He noted that the independent group is the only entity capable of challenging Morena's dominance in the state.

Máynez also highlighted that recent electoral reforms have made it more difficult for independent candidates to run for governor, citing restrictions on the use of common logos and naming conventions. He suggested that Movimiento Ciudadano could serve as a viable political pathway for such candidates.
