Movimiento Por Venezuela proposes public debate for 2027 budget

Simón Calzadilla, the national general secretary of the Movimiento Por Venezuela (MPV), has proposed that the Venezuelan national budget for 2027 be publicly discussed and approved. Speaking at an event organized by the Alianza por la Unidad Social in Carabobo, Calzadilla argued that citizens have a right to know how every dollar of national income is spent.

Calzadilla, an economist, noted that for the past decade, the national budget has neither been made public nor debated, preventing transparency regarding the distribution of income and expenditures required by law and the Constitution.

Furthermore, Calzadilla emphasized the urgent need to appoint an independent Comptroller, free from political or government ties, to oversee the correct execution of budgets and prevent the misappropriation of funds. He called for this issue to be addressed within the dialogue tables led by Jorge Rodríguez and Dinorah Figuera.
