Movistar Plus acquires rights to Alice Guy biographical series

Movistar Plus has acquired the rights to broadcast ‘Alice: Pioneer of Cinema’ in Spain. The six-episode drama tells the story of Alice Guy, recognized as the first person to direct a fiction film.

Set in 1895 Paris, the series stars Bérénice Bejo and follows Guy as she transitions from a secretary to a cinematic innovator. The production is a collaboration between Wild Bunch and Ligne de Front (France), Panache Productions and La Compagnie Cinématographique (Belgium), and Sphère Média (Canada).

The series is scheduled to have its world premiere in the Primetime section of the Toronto International Film Festival this September, with a planned release on the platform in December. Other international broadcasters including HBO Max, France Télévisions, and Crave have also acquired rights.
