Movistar reports steep profit decline and expands Wi‑Fi 7 services in Spain
Movistar Plus+ saw its net profit tumble 77.6% in the 2025 fiscal year, falling to €15.7 million from €70.2 million the year before. The drop is attributed primarily to a €65.9 million provision for an employment regulation plan (ERE) that will affect up to 245 workers, while revenue remained essentially flat and personnel costs nearly doubled. The subsidiary also suspended dividend payments and allocated its modest profit to voluntary reserves.
Separately, Movistar is extending its Wi‑Fi 7 rollout. From 6 July, the company will install its Wi‑Fi 7 router at no extra charge for all new pure‑fiber contracts, with the cheapest 300 Mbps plan priced at €19.90 per month during a 12‑month promotion. At the same time, Movistar launched a Wi‑Fi 7 amplifier made from 70% recycled plastic, available for self‑installation or technician‑installation, to boost signal reach and capacity.
