Movistar to migrate millions of customers to Tuenti in Argentina

Movistar will begin migrating millions of mobile telephony customers to Tuenti starting October 19, a process expected to continue through late November. The transition is part of a broader reorganization of the Argentine telecommunications market following Metrotel’s US$450 million acquisition of assets from Telecom, which includes approximately six million mobile customers and 200,000 fixed internet users.

The migration is designed to be automatic; customers will not need to perform administrative tasks or replace their SIM cards. Movistar has stated that users will retain their current phone numbers, available credit, and existing commercial conditions, noting that plans may be maintained or improved.

As the market shifts, concerns have been raised regarding the impact on specific services such as international roaming and the future branding of venues like the Movistar Arena. While Tuenti is positioned as a low-cost brand, the consolidation of services under fewer providers remains a point of discussion for consumers.
