Mozambican companies report significant financial declines in 2025
Major Mozambican entities reported significant financial declines for the 2025 fiscal year. The Sociedade Moçambicana de Medicamentos (SMM) transitioned from a profit of 639.9 million meticais in 2024 to a net loss of 74.6 million meticais in 2025. This downturn followed a 35.5% drop in revenue, falling to 219.8 million meticais. The company attributed the loss to reduced sales and the absence of extraordinary gains from 2024, which were primarily linked to the valuation of its stake in Indústria Farmacêutica de Moçambique.
Simultaneously, the Bolsa de Valores de Moçambique (BVM) saw its net profits plummet by 86%, totaling 35.3 million meticais (approximately 477,000 euros) in 2025, compared to 252 million meticais in 2024. The BVM's total revenue decreased by 25.7% to 692 million meticais. This decline was driven by a 13.9% drop in service sales and a 55.2% reduction in financial income from interest and deposits.
