Mozambique: 182,000 women receive abortion-related care

Data released by IPAS Mozambique reveals that 182,865 women received care related to abortion across four provinces: Nampula, Zambézia, Cabo Delgado, and Niassa. The figures include 98,668 cases of induced abortion and 84,197 cases of post-abortion care.

The report, presented by program manager Nádia Macarringue, highlights a significant presence of adolescents and young adults. Approximately 56% of the women treated were between the ages of 15 and 24. Specifically, 27% of cases involved women aged 15 to 19, and 29% involved those aged 20 to 24.

Regarding contraceptive use, 78.4% of the women treated left health units with a modern contraceptive method. The data shows varying age distributions across the provinces, with Cabo Delgado recording 14% of cases involving minors under the age of 15.
