Mozambique’s Administrative Tribunal (TA) prevented irregular public expenditures totaling 1.2 billion meticais (approximately 17.2 million USD) during the first half of 2026.

Spokesperson Arquimedes Varrimelo reported that the institution evaluated over 28,000 processes, granting approval to roughly 20,000. The remaining 8,000 processes were rejected due to serious irregularities. Key issues identified included a lack of transparency in public tenders, absence of essential bank guarantees, and incompatibility between contract objects and supplier licenses.

The tribunal also noted the improper use of direct award procurement methods and the misuse of urgent service declarations. This represents a significant increase in prevented losses compared to the same period in 2025, when the amount prevented was 360 million meticais.
