Mozambique accepts 284 UN human rights recommendations
Mozambique has committed to implementing 284 out of 292 recommendations regarding human rights following the fourth cycle of the United Nations Universal Periodic Review. During the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Minister of Justice Mateus Saize announced the country's acceptance of proposals covering justice access, the rule of law, and the protection of vulnerable groups, including children affected by conflict in Cabo Delgado.
In a separate development, UN Special Rapporteur Elisa Morgera announced an assessment plan to evaluate human rights in Mozambique amidst increasing climate challenges. Discussions with the Assembly of the Republic highlighted a legislative gap regarding human rights protections specifically related to climate change. Morgera emphasized the need for coherence between environmental, land, and mining laws to protect communities most affected by climate shifts.
Additionally, the third phase of the Good Financial Governance (BGF) programme has concluded, showing results in municipal revenue increases and improved administrative services. The Ministry of State Administration and Public Service is now advocating for the fourth phase of the programme to align closely with national development priorities and strategic planning.
