Mozambique advances satellite testing and regional water management agreements

Mozambique’s telecommunications operator Tmcel has begun testing Angola’s ANGOSAT-2 satellite to provide telecommunications services. This follows successful trials by Televisão de Moçambique (TVM), which is preparing a commercial agreement to distribute public television signals across the country via the satellite. The initiative is part of a regional strategy to expand ANGOSAT-2’s capacity and connectivity within the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

Separately, Malawi, Mozambique, and Tanzania have signed the Ruvuma Establishment Agreement to create the Ruvuma/Rovuma River Basin Commission. This agreement ensures 100% participatory management of the river basin by including Malawi, which holds 0.3% of the basin. The IUCN noted that this agreement was concluded in less than four years, making it the fastest such water agreement within the SADC.
