Mozambique leaders call for police strengthening and sovereign judicial cooperation
Mozambican President Daniel Chapo has called for the strengthening of the Republic of Mozambique Police (PRM) operational capacity. Speaking at the conclusion of the XX Special Operations and Reserve Units Course in Macandzene, Chapo emphasized the need for specialized training, discipline, and professionalism to combat complex crimes such as terrorism, human trafficking, drug smuggling, and cybercrime. He urged officers to act with firmness and without hesitation against criminals while strictly adhering to the Constitution and human rights, noting that increased intervention power requires greater legal accountability.
Separately, at the International Justice Summit in Istanbul, Turkey, Minister of Justice Mateus Saize advocated for international judicial cooperation rooted in respect for state sovereignty and human rights. Saize highlighted that global challenges—including climate change, artificial intelligence regulation, migration, and digital security—require collective action. He also addressed domestic priorities, calling for a more accessible and transparent justice system in Mozambique, particularly in rural areas, through infrastructure expansion and digital modernization that avoids deepening social inequalities.
