Mozambique and Botswana sign eight agreements to deepen bilateral ties
Mozambique and Botswana have signed eight agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation across several strategic sectors. Following a state visit by Mozambican President Daniel Chapo to Botswana, the two nations agreed to elevate their existing joint commission to a binational commission, which will be led directly by the respective heads of state to ensure closer oversight of commitments.
The agreements cover a wide range of fields, including health, culture, tourism, science and technology, justice, and defense. A major focus of the cooperation involves enhancing transport, logistics, and connectivity to facilitate the movement of goods and people.
Key infrastructure projects under discussion include the Limpopo Development Corridor and the Ponta Techobanine project. Botswana is seeking to expand its access to the Indian Ocean through Mozambican port and logistics infrastructure, specifically targeting Maputo and Nacala. This integration is expected to increase cargo volumes and demand for rail, port, and fuel-supply services in Mozambique.
