Mozambique and Vietnam seek cashew industry cooperation

The governments of Mozambique and Vietnam have expressed interest in strengthening cooperation within the cashew nut sector. During a meeting in Maputo between Vietnamese Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin and Jorge Vidigal Floe, Director of the Mozambique Cashew Institute, discussions focused on technical knowledge transfer, attracting investment, and increasing local processing capacity.

Mozambique produced approximately 200,000 tons of cashew nuts in 2025, with only about 40,000 tons processed domestically. Despite low local processing, cashew exports generated roughly $121.6 million, nearly triple the value recorded in 2024. Mozambique aims to increase its processing capacity to 482,000 tons by 2034 as part of a long-term value chain development program.

Beyond cashews, Mozambique has expressed interest in expanding cooperation to include coffee and macadamia production, specifically regarding cultivation techniques and production development.
