Mozambique announces livestock and biodiversity initiatives at FACIM

During the 61st edition of the Mozambique Agro-Commercial and Industrial Fair (FACIM), the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries highlighted strategic initiatives to bolster the national economy and food security.

Minister Celso Correia announced plans to import 800 bulls to modernize the national livestock sector. This initiative aims to improve cattle genetics, increase meat and milk production, and address structural productivity challenges. The government intends to select specific breeds capable of adapting to the local climate and resisting diseases, while also providing technical assistance and training to local breeders.

In a separate seminar at the event, experts discussed the role of biodiversity conservation as an economic driver. Panelists emphasized that a green development model requires synergy between the government, the private sector, local communities, and academia. The discussion highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships and the valuation of natural capital to ensure sustainable economic growth.
