Mozambique business robustness rises slightly amid fuel and currency constraints

The Business Robustness Index in Mozambique rose slightly to 27% in the second quarter of 2026, up from 26% in the first quarter. This marginal increase comes despite a modest improvement in the macroeconomic environment, which rose from 55% to 58% during the same period.

Álvaro Massingue, president of the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA), noted that macroeconomic improvements are not translating effectively to actual business operations. He identified the scarcity of foreign exchange, particularly US dollars, and a fuel crisis as the primary constraints on the business environment. Specifically, the price of diesel increased by approximately 46%, creating chain effects across various industries.
