Mozambique celebrates 62nd anniversary of Defense Armed Forces

Mozambique marked the 62nd anniversary of the Mozambique Defense Armed Forces (FADM) with various commemorative ceremonies across the country. In Sofala province, 28 former combatants—including 16 women and 12 men—were decorated in Beira to recognize their contributions to the national liberation struggle.

During the celebrations, officials addressed both security and environmental challenges. In the Balama district, Administrator Edson Lino urged residents to increase vigilance and report suspicious movements following recent terrorist activities. He also advised farmers to prepare for a strong El Niño phenomenon, which is expected to cause significant rainfall deficits and potential droughts between late 2026 and mid-2027.

In Beira, State Secretary Manuel Rodrigues Alberto and Colonel Mateus Cuenjel emphasized the importance of preserving the nation's legacy while noting that modern defense challenges now include organized crime and climate-related emergencies.
