Mozambique expands infrastructure with port upgrades and energy sector contracts

Mozambique is seeing significant infrastructure investments in both its maritime and energy sectors. The Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC) has invested USD 13.2 million to acquire two new Liebherr mobile port cranes. This acquisition increases the port's mobile crane fleet to eight and aims to replace older equipment to improve productivity, reduce vessel turnaround times, and enhance reliability. Minister of Transport and Logistics João Matlombe noted that these improvements are part of the commitments made under the port's concession extension to 2058.

In the energy sector, Portuguese construction firm Mota-Engil has secured a €178 million contract for early infrastructure works related to ExxonMobil's LNG project in northern Mozambique. Operating in a 50/50 consortium with Italy's Bonatti Spa, Mota-Engil will undertake earthmoving, infrastructure development, and the construction of worker camps on the Afungi Peninsula in Cabo Delgado. The 27-month contract is part of the early works package for Area 4, supporting the Mozambique Rovuma Ventures consortium.
