Mozambique Finance Minister Carla Louveira touts energy potential at Africa infrastructure forum

Mozambique’s Finance Minister Carla Louveira said the country’s natural gas, renewable energy and critical minerals give it a strong position to attract new investment. She highlighted the government’s goal of universal electricity access by 2030 for about 33 million people, through grid expansion, diversification of the energy mix, increased domestic gas use and promotion of electric vehicles.

Louveira represented Mozambique at the Infra for Africa 2026 Forum and the Africa50 General Assembly in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on 5‑6 August. The events gathered heads of state, investors and development partners to discuss financing solutions for Africa’s infrastructure, energy security and industrial transformation. She called for alternative financing mechanisms to offset shrinking fiscal space and noted Africa50’s role in promoting large‑scale projects and investment partnerships.
