Mozambique focuses on engineering innovation and fisheries development

Educational and technical institutions in Mozambique are focusing on driving national socioeconomic development through specialized training and industrial application.

At the Universidade Politécnica in Maputo, experts and academics held a roundtable to discuss engineering challenges in sectors such as energy, infrastructure, and the environment. Discussions highlighted Mozambique's strategic potential in solar, hydro, and gas energy, while noting that external dependence on technology remains a barrier to industrial growth. Environmental specialists also emphasized the need for academic research to address climate change resilience in local infrastructure.

In Inhambane province, President Daniel Chapo has called for the Instituto Superior Politécnico de Quissico to become a hub for fish production and processing. Following the inauguration of the institution, Chapo emphasized that the facility should leverage its laboratories and equipment to facilitate the freezing, drying, and packaging of seafood. The goal is to combine practical vocational training with entrepreneurship, encouraging students to create businesses that utilize the country's maritime and freshwater resources.
