Mozambique hosts SADC transfrontier conservation dialogue

Mozambique hosted a National Dialogue on SADC Transfrontier Conservation Areas (TFCA) in Maputo on August 5-6, 2026. The meeting aimed to gather input from various institutions and organizations involved in establishing a national network of these areas and to strengthen national coordination for the SADC TFCA Program (2023–2033).

Gustavo Sobrinho Dgedge, State Secretary for Land and Environment, emphasized the government's commitment to biodiversity conservation and sustainable resource management. He stated the goal is to transform natural capital into economic opportunities through sustainable tourism, green employment, and local value chains to improve the lives of Mozambican communities.

Ndapanda Kamine, a Senior Program Officer for Natural Resources and Wildlife at the SADC Secretariat, noted that the dialogue represents a significant milestone in the ongoing effort to operationalize the program and other natural resource frameworks.
